Last season, which in TVD’s timeline is last night, Stefan made a choice to let Elena die. You can harp on all you like about how it was her choice, at the end of the day it was his too. Rightly or wrongly, he let her die. It was a huge flipping deal. Or it should have been. It should have been the impetus for some actual tension in Stefan and Elena’s relationship. It should have been the impetus for Stefan to look at his life and his choices and for Elena to look at hers. But who was I kidding thinking that? After all, Stefan being a Rippahhhhh! had exactly no consequences. Kills Andie, nobody speaks of it again. Almost gets Jeremy killed and doesn’t give a shit? Shoves his blood down Elena’s throat and threatens to drive her off the same bridge where her parents died? He’s the best choice Elena ever made. The entire lack of consequences that have flowed from last season is just dazzling. The fact that Stefan gets to be the white knight again in this episode? Frankly makes me want to puke. STEFAN ALWAYS GETS THE BEST BITS, YOU GUYS. Like why in the name of god was he the one who gave Elena the daylight ring Bonnie made for her, in an episode in which Bonnie almost died trying to save Elena? Stefan would probably piss me off 50% less if he’d just stop muscling in on moments that rightfully belong to other characters. Like, remember that time Alaric died and he used it as an opportunity to get back into Elena’s emotional pants? Yeah.
